LIVING PICTURE, 1986

mixed media, dove dimension variable

This work is made for “A different Show For The Memory Of Joseph Beuys” German Culture Center in Izmir, shortly after Beuy’s death. It consists of a three dimensional light box built as a convex to create space for a bird cage in it.  The piece includes a living dove raised by Vahap and intended to be part of the work which made the Center’s management upset citing animal rights in Germany. They threatened to close the show down but curator Cekil and the artist agreed to remove the bird from the piece leaving a minimalist looking black box on the wall.
