The last show artist was involved organized in collaboration with Selim Birsel and Claude Leon and Fusun Okutan in Ankara was called Gar Show. It was a large project showing contemporary art in public spaces at the central train station in Ankara, the capital. They invited 12 artists worked with contemporary issues and installation. The show was installed and opened with the awe of the art scene on May 3rd 1995 and was taken down at night by the authorities after the opening before the artists had chance to document them. Show was closed down and most works destroyed citing works of Vahap and Birsel as being provocative and “threatening public safety and sanity in these critical times” hinting the 12th anniversary of fighting with the Kurdish guerillas in the east. The times were indeed critical as the war with the Kurdish guerillas and casualties in the east reached its peak and artists did work questioning the situation. Vahap installed a series of plastic containers containing a red liquid filled up to the faucet in the main lobby and a video piece shown in the waiting room. Artists and critics alike raise hell in the media against the authorities and this event marks artist’s decision of leaving the country indefinitely.
